Anhui, China — June 30, 2026 — As European food service brands place greater emphasis on material safety, restricted substance control, recyclability, and supplier documentation under evolving EU packaging rules, GMZ Pack announced that its paper cup products have passed SGS PFAS screening and REACH SVHC testing.
The latest test results strengthen GMZ Pack’s compliance documentation for paper cup products and support customers preparing for Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)-related packaging requirements in the European market. According to the European Commission, PPWR applies to all packaging and packaging waste placed on the EU market, sets requirements related to the manufacturing, composition, and reusable or recoverable nature of packaging, and also addresses restrictions on substances of concern, including PFAS in food contact packaging under specified thresholds.

According to the SGS test reports, the sample submitted by GMZ Pack was a white paper cup. PFAS screening covered 725 perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and all tested PFAS in the specified list were ND, meaning not detected within the method detection limits. REACH SVHC screening was conducted against 253 substances of very high concern (SVHC) on the ECHA Candidate List published on or before Feb. 4, 2026, as well as one potential SVHC under identification. Under the specified scope and evaluation screening, the results were ≤0.1% (w/w), with a Pass conclusion.

“When European customers source food packaging from us, they are no longer looking only at price. They also ask whether packaging products are ready for evolving regulatory requirements such as PPWR,” said a GMZ Pack quality management representative. “As a supplier, we need to provide clearer and more traceable third-party evidence on material safety, restricted substance control, and compliance documentation.”
“For GMZ, the goal is not simply to pass individual tests. It is to help customers source paper cup products with greater confidence as EU packaging regulations continue to evolve.”
As PFAS, SVHC, and packaging material safety become increasingly important in European food packaging procurement reviews, clear and traceable third-party test documentation is becoming an important factor in supplier evaluation. The latest SGS test results help GMZ customers better assess material safety and restricted substance risks when sourcing paper cup products, while supporting PPWR-related compliance preparation. Looking ahead, GMZ Pack will continue to monitor regulatory developments in Europe and other international markets while strengthening its work in raw material selection, product testing, quality management, and supply chain collaboration, providing food packaging solutions that are reliable, transparent, and aligned with changing market expectations for safety and sustainability.
